Annagh In Quarters
Annagh progressed to the quarter final stage of this seasons Bob Radcliffe Cup following on from the defeat of Coagh United to win 2-0 against a resiliant AFC Craigavon side at Tandragee Road.
The Mid Ulster visitors certainly had their tactics well planned for this game and although Annagh enjoyed much of the early possesion, the relatively young AFC side, with the exception of ex Lurgan Celtic stalwarts John Campbell and Gary Magennis, gave Annagh some early problems.
The first half was much a midfield affair with few chances at both ends, only a fine save low to his left from Annagh 'keeper Nelson kept the score level going into the break.
Annagh upped the tempo in the 2nd half and were rewarded when attacking midfielder Hughes shot high past the keeper on his dodgy left peg to give Annagh the lead. Annagh always knew however that it would take another goal to kill the game, cue substitute striker Greig Stewart who picked out the top corner from all of 18 yards after only a few touches of the ball.
At this stage AFC went all out and put player/manager Campbell up front, much to the annoyance of Annagh centre half Keith Percy who ended up in a loving embrace with Cambpell on the edge of the Annagh box....handbags from two old pros who had kissed and made up before the referee had trundled back from the opposite end of the ground!
Full-Time: 2-0
Annagh showed fighting spirit against the Mid Ulster minnows, who with credit put up a reasonable fight for much of the game. Annagh now go into next weeks draw for the Bob Radcliffe Quarter Finals where a difficult draw may just well await them.
