Annagh Over the Moon As Simmons Kills Rangers
Annagh's Impressive start to the season continued as Keith Wilkinson's men defeated Cookstown side Killymooon Rangers in the Championship 2 League Cup. The Tyrone men who spent last season in the inaugural Championship travelled to Tandragee Road hoping to progress. However it was the home side who entered the hat for the next round draw thanks to an Andrew Simmons' first half goal.
Both sides started brightly with the home side playing some good passing football. An early chance fell to Michael Crowe, who's looping header hit the bar and lone striker Uprichard failing to turn the ball home with an acrobatic effort from the rebound. Uprichard's defence splitting pass set Andrew Simmons clear and the winger cooly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper with a superb chipped finish.
Raymond Harpur starting at right back as Lee Mackle was switched to a center back role, had a fine 25 yard strike flash past the post.
Second half chances fell to Scott Herron who shot narrowly past the post, however Annagh failed to add to their one goal lead. With minutes remaining, Cookstown man himself Kyle Nelson pulled off an excellent double save from point blank range to keep his clean sheet in tact and ensure Annagh progressed in the tournament.
Wilkinson added to his panel of players in mid week by re-signing Ciaran McGurgan from Mid Ulster rivals, Lurgan Celtic.
Team: Kyle Nelson, Raymond Harpur, Colin Bingham, Lee Mackle, Chris Guiney, David Bell, Scott Herron, Martin Hughes, Michael Crowe, Andrew Simmons (Greig Stewart), Jamie Uprichard
