Hughes That Penalty Taker?
Martin Hughes was man of the match as Annagh United beat Championship 1 side Coagh in the bob Radcliffe Cup to set up another home tie against AFC Craigavon.
Annagh battled back on three occasions before netting the game's decisive goal after extra-time in the Bob Radcliffe Cup clash. The thrilling 4-3 tie featured seven goals and plenty of drama at Tandragee Road before a penalty kick settled the outcome of the first-round meeting.
"I am so proud of my players and the way they worked until the final whistle was a realhighlight", said United boss, Keith Wilkinson. "I think we deserved the win, especially after showing so much desire to bounce back from falling behind three times over the tie.
"I feel Coagh scored each time against the run of play and that one goal should have been ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper and another as offside.
"We created first-half chances for Jamie Uprichard, Andrew Simmons and Scott Herron before Coagh took the lead.
"Simmons then delivered a cracking corner-kick which Michael Crowe raced in to convert before half-time.
"The second half followed a similar pattern and we were in great shape until Coagh moved back in front
"John Guy was unavailable for the start of the match due to other commitments but I introduced him as a replacement for Keith Percy in the second half.
"He ended up scoring our second equaliser, with another Simmons delivery causing problems and Guy on hand to knock the ball in.
"Coagh made it 3-2 despite our appeals for the offside flag but we continued to show impressive resolve and Martin Hughes' penalty kick was a fitting reward.
"Another penalty by Hughes secured the win to seal a really good game of football."
